Twenty five years of spring and autumn, Macao's return to the embrace of the motherland has witnessed the successful practice of 'one country, two systems'. Today, filled with pride and joy, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Macau's return, look back on its past glory, and look forward to its future plans.
CITIC Environmental Technology earnestly implements Xi Jinping's ecological civilization ideology, firmly establishes the concept of green development, and constructs and operates multiple benchmark water projects in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Since 2016, CITIC Environmental Technology has been paying attention to and participating in the prevention and control of water pollution in Macau, and has participated in the bidding and technical consulting work for the operation of local sewage treatment plants 9 times.
With the economic development and population growth of Macau in recent years, the amount of sewage in Macau has also increased. The existing sewage treatment plants in the area have been in operation for a long time and are no longer sufficient to cope with the increasing amount of sewage and the increasingly strict requirements for tailwater quality. CITIC Environmental Technology leverages its advanced urban sewage treatment technology and rich experience in operating and managing large-scale municipal sewage treatment projects to actively respond to the upgrading needs of Macau's sewage treatment plant technology and management, injecting green momentum into regional economic and social development.
·Macau Peninsula Sewage Treatment Plant
CITIC Environmental Technology has formed a consortium with local partners to win the bid for the operation and maintenance services of the Macau Peninsula Sewage Treatment Plant in November 2023, and officially took over in February 2024. The Macau Peninsula Sewage Treatment Plant is located in the Black Sand Circle area of the Macau Peninsula. It was completed and put into operation in 1995 and is the first public sewage treatment plant in Macau. It is also one of the most important environmental infrastructure facilities in Macau. The designed treatment capacity of the Macau Peninsula Sewage Treatment Plant is 154000 cubic meters per day, covering an area of approximately 17079 square meters. Its service scope covers most areas of the Macau Peninsula and serves a population of 400000. It is currently the largest sewage treatment plant in Macau.
·Improvement of operation and management level of Peninsula sewage treatment plant
In response to the legacy issues of process system collapse, excessive effluent and boundary odor, and high equipment failure rate, CITIC Environmental Technology took over the Peninsula Sewage Treatment Plant and quickly took action. Through a series of innovative measures, it eliminated operational technical barriers, improved sewage treatment efficiency and quality, and ensured that effluent meets discharge standards. At the same time, strengthening the daily management and maintenance of the factory area to ensure the stable operation of equipment has further improved the operational efficiency of the water plant.
·Staff are conducting inspections
At present, the takeover work of CITIC Environmental Technology has achieved breakthrough results, solving the problem of long-term substandard effluent quality in the Peninsula sewage treatment plant. The COD compliance rate has increased from 54.84% before takeover to 100%, and the BOD5 compliance rate has increased from 12.9% before takeover to 96.67%, which has been recognized by the Macao SAR government and the Environmental Protection Bureau.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland, in 2024, CITIC Environmental Technology and local partners formed a consortium and successfully won the bid for the upgrade, operation and maintenance project of the Coloane sewage treatment plant in Macau. It will officially enter the site and take over on March 1, 2025.
·Macau Coloane Sewage Treatment Plant
The Coloane Sewage Treatment Plant is located in the Cotai Reclamation Area of Macau. It began commercial operation in 1998 and has a treatment capacity of 130000 cubic meters per day. It is the second largest sewage treatment plant in Macau, serving the Coloane Island and Cotai City areas. CITIC Environmental Technology will fully leverage its technological and management experience advantages to optimize and transform the sewage treatment plant, and be responsible for its daily operation and maintenance work.
At that time, CITIC Environmental Technology will operate and manage the two sewage treatment plants with the largest treatment capacity in Macau, using advanced technology and rich project operation experience to improve Macau's sewage treatment capacity, continuously solve the water shortage problem faced by Macau's development, enhance the regional environmental carrying capacity, and contribute CITIC's strength to the economic and social development of Macau and even the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
