Recently, the first phase of the Xianda (Tianjin) Nangang Industrial Zone seawater desalination and comprehensive utilization integration project (referred to as the Xianda seawater desalination project) has been officially put into operation. This project is provided with ultrafiltration system technology integration and equipment supply services by MEMSTAR, a subsidiary of CITIC Environmental Technology in Singapore. It is the largest seawater desalination project in northern China and also the largest individual seawater desalination project in China.

The Xianda desalination project is one of the eight economic and trade cooperation projects jointly witnessed and signed by the leaders of the two countries at the 2013 China Malaysia Economic Summit, the first "the Belt and Road" initiative project invested by Malaysia in China, and the first large-scale industrial centralized water use project in China, with a total scale of 300000 tons/day and a water production scale of 150000 tons/day in the first phase. After the project is put into operation, it can replace surface water with an annual consumption of about 50 million tons. As the main water source, it provides high-quality fresh water to key project customers such as the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene project of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, the Huadian Nangang Thermal Power Project of Huadian International Power Co., Ltd., and the "Two Chemicals" relocation and renovation project of Tianjin Bohua Chemical Development Co., Ltd., making Nangang Industrial Zone the first industrial park in China to use seawater desalination as the main water source.
The raw water of Xianda seawater desalination project is taken from Bohai Bay in Tianjin, with a wide range of water quality and temperature changes, and obvious characteristics of low temperature and high turbidity. The project adopts "air flotation+ultrafiltration+first stage reverse osmosis+second stage reverse osmosis", and MEMSTAR from Singapore provides ultrafiltration system technology integration and equipment supply services for the project. The ultrafiltration workshop is equipped with 4 ultrafiltration membrane sequences and a total of 32 sets of machines. The 4 ultrafiltration sequences have been put into operation and put into use successively in early 2024.

The successful commissioning of the Xianda seawater desalination project marks a market breakthrough for MEMSTAR in China's large-scale seawater desalination segment.
